The River -Jeff Weaver, Rarely Herd Music, BMI
As a child, I would sit down by the river
thoughts ran wild, dreamed of how far it would go
And in my mind, I would pilot a sternwheeler
We would roll together to the ocean shore
She would wait, lie in wait beneath the willows
We'd walk the river, hand in hand on summer nights
We fell in love, swore to live our lives together.
She broke her promise and my heart at the same time.
Days go by
I've got to break this rivers hold
Changed my life
you could say my love for the river
is gone.... long gone
I can't stay here, I can't stand another minute
dry up river, drown the loneliness you hide
Every ripple shows her memory deep within it
Every time I'm near the river I could cry
Days go by
I've got to break this rivers hold
Changed my life
you could say my love for the river
is gone.... long gone
